Altered antique volume of essays by Addison and Steele, circa 1974; 114 pages so far; 4" X 7" X 3"; (in progress)
The old volume of essays is painted on, collaged, and sewn with silk threads and glass beads. The images incorporate the engraved rectangular frame of each page and often leave the authors' words and phrases as legible text. The complex pictorial spreads address a multitude of topics, each suggested by the titles of the essays. The natural disintegration of the materials gives the visual narrative of the book a subplot about aging, preciousness and death. Will I finish the work before
it self destructs or I die?
