The Horse and His Rider

Oil on canvas
60" X 68"
1991

The text says, "The horse and his rider has been cast into the sea," when God drowned all the Egyptians and their horses.  During the seder (the ceremonial meal of Passover)  we dip our finger into our cup of wine and remove a drop to acknowledge that our joy at our own liberation is diminished at the loss of any life, even that of our enemies.

This is one of four paintings commissioned for the exhibition  "Passion and Passover" by the Laband Gallery of Loyola University in Los Angeles.
